Run Laya Locally: Setup and First Check

Start with an isolated Python environment and a small input. Confirm the output format before connecting the model to a live workflow.

Sources: developer model card and developer repository. Source-based guidance; this site has not completed an independent model benchmark.

Requirements

The developer specifies Python 3.10 or newer. Model weights download on first use, so allow disk space and an internet connection. Hardware, checkpoint and dependency versions affect memory needs and speed; this guide does not promise a minimum-memory configuration.

1. Create an isolated environment

Windows PowerShell:

py -3.12 -m venv .venv
.\.venv\Scripts\python -m pip install laya==0.3.20
.\.venv\Scripts\python -m pip freeze > environment.txt

macOS or Linux:

python3 -m venv .venv
.venv/bin/python -m pip install laya==0.3.20
.venv/bin/python -m pip freeze > environment.txt

2. Run the experiment

Download the Python test script and example cases into the same folder. Run python laya-triage.py using the environment above. The script requests the English checkpoint explicitly for these English examples.

3. Read the evidence

The script writes laya-results.json with package versions, timestamps, raw answers and elapsed time. Its first request may include a model download and loading; do not treat that time as steady-state inference speed. Save the model cache revision and hardware details alongside your results.

If setup fails

The commands follow the referenced SDK documentation. These commands and the test script completed on our Windows CPU environment. The exact environment and observed results are recorded on the experiment page.
